How secure is sending files with CuteSendIt?
This service is designed with high security standards. Your files are stored on fully redundant and backed up data servers with 100% uptime (excluding a maintenance window of 2AM - 6AM EST), and 24x7x365 proactive monitoring. The servers are located within a protected tier-1 collocation facility with SAS 70 Type II Certification. The servers are protected behind an enterprise-class managed firewall and intrusion detection system. Restricted access to the servers is protected by proximity card entry, camera-recorded server room access, and a perimeter security system.
For an additional layer of security, you may zip, encrypt, and password protect the files before sending them. Then you can send the password in a separate email.
Secure 256-bit SSL is included on all paid plans.
What are the system requirements?
CuteSendIt requires an Internet connection and a browser (for the online version). The GlobalSCAPE Quality Assurance team has tested CuteSendIt on Internet Explorer and Firefox, with limited testing on Safari and Chrome.
CuteSendIt wizard is supported on Windows XP and newer.
Am I always connected?
When you log in to CuteSendIt over an Internet connection, your login expires if you are idle for more than 24 minutes or when you close all browser windows.
When you send files with the CuteSendIt wizard, it connects to CuteSendIt using the login credentials that you configure in the Account Setup dialog box.
What about virus protection?
CuteSendIt's servers use AVG Antivirus to scan files as they are uploaded to your online storage and when sending files via the CuteSendIt email form.
No programs are downloaded to your computer, and there is no configuration or extra steps for you to take. AVG Antivirus is turned on automatically for your protection. Just upload or email your files, and the CuteSendIt servers automatically scan the files for viruses, and inform you if a virus was found. If a virus is detected, a warning message appears and the file is not uploaded or emailed. You then must use your local anti-virus software to scan the file to remove any viruses before attempting to upload or email the file again.
For real-time protection, automatic updates, low-impact background scanning for online threats, and instant quarantining or removal of infected files, download AVG Internet Security.
Sending Files
How do I send a file?
You send it from within your Internet browser; no special software is required. You can also use the CuteSendIt Wizard, which supports resume-upload and up to 2GB file sizes, to send files directly from your desktop. Whichever method you use, the basic procedure is the same. You do not have to be logged in to send a file, but certain features are only available after you log in.
To send one or more files:
Do one of the following:
If you are not logged in, click Home.
Log in to your account, then click Send Files.
Open the CuteSendIt Wizard.
The email form appears.
In the To box, type or paste the email addresses of the contacts to whom you want to send files. If you are logged in and have defined contacts in your CuteSendIt address book, click Address Book. (For the procedure for adding contacts to your address book, refer to How do I create/import/delete email addresses from my address book?)
To add contacts from your address book on AOL, Outlook or Outlook Express Contacts, Yahoo, Gmail, or another 3rd-party program, click Add from your address book. You might have to install an ActiveX control before CuteSendIt can display your external address book.
In the From box, your email address appears.
In the Subject box, type an intuitive title for the email. For example, instead of "Here it is!" you could type "Files for Friday's conference call."
If you are logged in, the Max Download box appears. "Max Download" refers to the number of times a file that you send can be downloaded. The default is 5 downloads on the Lite plan. If you have a subscription to a paid plan, you can specify the number of times the files that you send can be downloaded, up to the plan limit. Business and Corporate are unlimited. Type 0 to allow unlimited downloads.
In the Message box, type a brief message. Provide a description of why and what you are sending, and, if necessary, how they can view the attachments. (A message is optional.)
Do one of the following:
If you are not logged in:
In the Select files area, click Browse to attach one or more files. In the dialog box that appears, browse to the file that you want to attach, then click the file and click Open, or double-click it. Repeat to attach more files. You can also ZIP the files before attaching them to the email or send an additional email with the remaining files. (You do not need to fill all attachment slots; you can attach 1 file and leave the rest blank.)
If you are logged in:
Click Browse, browse for and select one or more files, then click Open. (Hold down SHIFT or CTRL to select multiple files.) The files display under the Browse button. You can remove a file from the list by clicking its icon.
The maximum total size of the files that you can send at one time is limited by the type of plan that you have and the Internet file transfer limit of 2GB.
Select the Send a copy to your email check box if you want to send yourself a copy of the email that your recipients see.
Read the terms and conditions, then select the check box.
Click Send. A progress bar appears displaying the progress of your file upload.
Wait until the progress finishes before navigating away from the page or delivery will be interrupted and cancelled.Uploading can take 5-60 minutes depending on the size of your attachments and the speed of your Internet connection. When the upload is complete, the File Tracking page appears.
Note: If you click the Delete File(s) link, ALL files attached to the email are permanently deleted from our servers. They can no longer be downloaded and cannot be recovered from our servers. This feature is useful, for example, if you accidentally uploaded the wrong files.

How soon will they get the files?
After files are completely uploaded, CuteSendIt emails the files to your recipients that contain the download links to your files. Your recipients should receive the email within 1-5 minutes after the upload is complete. What if they didn't get the files?
You will receive an email notification when a recipient views the download page. If you never receive this download email and/or if a recipient claims to have never received the files, advise them to check their Junk email or Spam folder. You could also recommend that they add your email address and cutesendit.com to their safe sender (white) list and mark the email as not spam or not junk. If the recipient still cannot find the email and attachments, try sending it again and contact us if you continue to have problems.
How do I know they got the files?
You will receive an email notification when a recipient views the download page. Also, after you send files, you will receive a tracking link to track your deliveries. Visit the tracking link to view detailed information about visits and downloads.
What happens to the files after they are downloaded?
Your files will remain available on our system for a maximum of 3-14 days or a maximum of number of downloads per file, whichever comes first. When the file expires, the file is permanently deleted from our systems and cannot be recovered. Similar to normal emails and physical package deliveries, you cannot cancel or stop deliveries that are already sent.
How do I prevent further downloads of a file that I've sent?
If you want to prevent further downloads of a file that you've sent (e.g., if you want to send files that are new versions), you can permanently delete ALL files attached to the email and cancel further deliveries. Once deleted, they cannot be recovered from our servers.
When your recipient downloads a file you send, you receive a delivery notification email. To view details of the delivery, click the Tracking link in the email. On the File Tracking page, click the Delete File(s) link to permanently delete ALL files attached to the email from our servers.
